Driving a burgeoning supply chain delivering customers both hardware choice and a means to transition to software defined networking with one operating system
PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pica8®, Inc., the leader in open systems for software defined networking (SDN), today announced that Interface Masters has joined Pica8’s hardware ecosystem. As a qualified ecosystem partner, Interface Masters will resell PicOS™, Pica8’s SDN-ready network operating system to complement its full portfolio of 1GbE, 10GbE, 40GbE and 100GbE data center switches for top-of-rack (ToR) and spine deployments.
“The combined solution will provide our mutual customers with best-of-breed hardware and software components, which is part of how we anticipate networking market growth. Interface Masters has been an OCP member, providing the 10GbE and 40GbE solutions, and is now in the process of introducing 100GbE solutions.”
“We are excited about the partnership where Interface Masters customers will have access to Pica8’s software solution, OpenFlow and Layer-2-Layer-3 switching,” said Ben Askarinam, Founder and CEO of Interface Masters. “The combined solution will provide our mutual customers with best-of-breed hardware and software components, which is part of how we anticipate networking market growth. PicOS is the first bare-metal-compatible network operating system that enables customers to seamlessly migrate from conventional networking to SDN. PicOS delivers SDN solutions through Pica8’s adoption of Open-vSwitch (OVS). Pica8’s switching and routing support contributes to easy integration and adoption into existing network topologies, while OVS provides the SDN functionality and northbound interface that DevOps users expect. PicOS offers a comprehensive and flexible configuration management environment from either a Linux shell or feature-rich command line interface (CLI). PicOS has gained in popularity as an application on an unmodified Linux kernel because it natively leverages network automation tools such as Chef or Puppet, which are popular with server and system administrators.
“Interface Masters represents an ideal hardware partner because they share our view and the view of more and more companies who believe in an open networking model,” said Steve Garrison, Vice President of Marketing, Pica8. “The time is now for adopting the same supply chain model as we see widely accepted by the server industry today, and Interface Masters offers another source of open networking switches bundled with PicOS. We look forward to partnering with Interface Masters to help accelerate the deployment of open networking solutions and to extend their best-of-breed offerings.”
