INTERFACE MASTERS Technologies is Enhancing Its NIC product Line with the Niagara 2084 quad port PCI express NIC with SFPs.
The Niagara 2084 Server Adapter is based on Intel 82571 Ethernet Controller and supporting SFP pluggable modules for copper, multi mode and single mode fiber applications

San Jose, California, June 23, 2008 – Interface Masters Technologies, an industry leader and innovator in networking solutions, today announced its new addition to it Server Adapter and Network Interface Card (NIC) offering, the Niagara 2084. The Niagara 2084 is a Gigabit Quad port PCI Express Server Adapter/NIC designed to support 1000BASE-T, and 1000Base-SX/LX (optical fiber) at Gigabit rates and throughput for network monitoring tools, Intrusion detection systems (IDS) and intrusion protection systems (IPS) for security, Internet Security appliances, WAN Acceleration Systems, Gateways and network servers.

The Quad port NIC is based on the Intel 82571 Ethernet Controller which provides a standard IEEE 802.3 Ethernet interface for 1000BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 10BASE-T applications (802.3, 802.3u, and 802.3ab). The Niagara 2084 has a Plug-in card Form Factor with a PCI Express x4 Interface (Bus) Type.

The Gigabit Ethernet Adapters with SFP modules support the following options:

  • 1000Base-LX Fiber Gigabit Ethernet with 1000Base-LX SFP transceiver
  • 1000Base-SX Fiber Gigabit Ethernet with 1000Base-SX SFP transceiver
  • 1000Base-T (1000Mbps) Copper Gigabit Ethernet with 1000Base-T SFP transceiver

“We are continuously broadening our offering in the NIC and Server adaptor product line by introducing new members that support more ports and different interfaces”, said Ben Askarinam, Senior VP at Interface Masters Technologies. “The Niagara 2084, is a gigabit Ethernet server adapter offering four independent SFP channels in a single PCI Express slot. Ideally suited for space constrained network appliances and servers, it offers maximum port density and extracts the maximum network throughput from today’s high-end server motherboards. Its big differentiator is the ability to mix and match optical and copper connections.”

The Niagara 208x family provides additional features and capabilities:

  • Supports SFP modules for flexibility and media conversion
  • Supports Gigabit, SX (Single mode) & LX (Multi mode)
  • Based on Intel’s 82571 Ethernet Controller
  • PCI-e x4
  • IEEE 802.1q virtual local area network (VLAN) support with VLAN tag insertion, stripping and packet filtering for up to 4096 VLAN tags
  • Supports stateless offloads such as TCP segmentation offload, header replications/splitting, and Direct Cache Access (DCA) to lower CPU utilization
  • Transmit and receive IP, TCP and UDP checksum offloading capabilities
  • IPv6 Offloading
  • Advanced packet filtering
  • 9 kB jumbo frame support
