INTERFACE MASTERS Technologies Announces 10 Gigabit Link Aggregation Active TAP System featuring 10 Gigabit Ethernet Passive TAP functionality
Niagara 3213 delivers high speed network traffic to monitoring appliances with and without power to ensure maximum visibility into 10 GigE networks

San Jose, California, September 29th, 2010 – Interface Masters Technologies, an industry leader and innovator in networking solutions, today announced an additional member of its 10 Gigabit Link Aggregation TAP family that is designed to integrate with Network Monitoring appliances, Analytics, probes, Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and logging tools, Intrusion Detection Systems and Central Office applications. The Niagara 3213 TAP system consists of one 10 Gb Link Aggregation TAP segment which possesses Active TAP capabilities and a Passive TAP monitoring Port for non-intrusive full duplex 10G network monitoring even in absence of power.

The active TAP feature enables bi-directional traffic to be aggregated and mirrored to one or two appliance ports or uni-directional traffic to be split and sent to the two appliance ports. The active TAP segment can support multiple TAP methodologies and Multi-Mode fiber (SR) and Single-Mode fiber (LR) media configuration as well as LR to SR media conversion. The system architecture is designed for flexibility, enabling Niagara 3213 to operate in various modes including Split TAP, aggregation and proactive packet injection. Additionally, the system supports a full suite of secure management including industry-standard management and logging tools.

Niagara 3213’s active TAP capabilities ensure maximum visibility into any network-critical link. During normal and healthy appliance operation, Niagara 3213 aggregates and/or splits traffic and mirrors it to the selected appliance ports which connect to the monitoring appliance or appliances. When Niagara 3213 detects a power or system failure, the passive TAP will ensure traffic is monitored while the Active TAP is disabled. Once the system is back up or the power is restored to the appliance, network traffic Active TAP and Passive TAP monitor traffic simultaneously to ensure comprehensive network monitoring for maximized exposure into the network. The passive TAP port enables out-of-band monitoring devices such as DLP, IDS systems, RMON probes, and sniffers to passively capture full-duplex traffic without altering or interrupting traffic flow.

The Niagara 3213 10Gigabit Link Aggregation TAP is managed by a 64-bit MIPS controller which supports a wide variety of control and management capabilities. The system provides flexible and intuitive CLI and GUI management features including secure web UI via an HTTPS connection, secure shell (SSH), SNMP, e-mail notification for special events, and bypass method configuration and passive TAP set-up and management. An authentication client capable of interfacing with authentication servers like TACACS+ and Radius will be supported. In addition, the system possesses Syslog support, enabling consolidation of log data from various systems into a central repository. This feature provides management, traceability and security auditing across a wide variety of devices and receivers on multiple platforms.

“The Niagara 3213 Link Aggregation TAP system equips network administrators, IT service providers, and datacenters with the ability to comprehensively and proactively monitor mission critical 10 Gigabit network links with multiple layers of network monitoring technology,” stated Ben Askarinam Founder and CEO of Interface Masters Technologies. “The Niagara 3213 ensures that network visibility is always of the highest integrity while providing advanced management tools to manage the process at an unmatched price-performance point.”
