NCS and Interface Masters to Attend Linuxworld Expo, Showcasing New “Portable” Appliance featuring Specialized Networking Technology.
The companies will jointly demonstrate the new powerful “Portable” Appliance with flexible networking capabilities

San Francisco, California, July 28, 2008 NCS Technologies, Inc., a leader in OEM computing manufacturing services, and Interface Masters Technologies, an industry leader and innovator in networking solutions, announced today that they will attend the Linuxworld Expo (August 5th-7th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco) and demonstrate the new NCS Technologies’ “Portable” Appliance combined with a newly released Interface Masters Niagara 3064, Quad Port Gigabit PCI-Express Server Adapter/NIC based on Broadcom’s* BCM5709, at the Interface Masters Booth #1311.

The development of the new “Portable” Appliance clearly demonstrates NCS’ full custom design capability as it began as a napkin sketch by a customer. The requirement was for a unit to be portable yet powerful; conceptually a unit that could be easily deployed in an enterprise as a “network tap” to capture traffic in an inconspicuous manner, left for a week or two, then picked up and taken off site for data analysis. The appliance needed to have plenty of processing power (up to a quad core CPU), “tiered” storage (multiple 2.5” SAS drives for high speed data capture, and large capacity SATA for archive), the ability to support multiple Gb LAN segments (expansion slots to accommodate additional low-profile NICs), and be small enough to be checked as normal baggage on a commercial airline.

Interface Masters’ Niagara 3×64 family of specialized network adapters are based on Broadcom’s* latest Gigabit networking technology (BCM5709), and is a critical ingredient for high performance network applications. The Niagara 3×64 includes support for VMWare* ESX, and is available in three varieties:

  • Niagara 3064 – Standard Quad-port Gb Ethernet adapter.
  • Niagara 3264 – Quad port Gb with Bypass for enterprise network applications sitting “inline,” with a built-in programmable bypass circuit which takes the network ports off line in event of power or software failure.
  • Niagara 3364 – Quad port Gb with hardware acceleration for encryption provided by Cavium* and available as either a Standard or Bypass Server adapter.

“We are pleased to team up with NCS Technologies, and support the new Portable Appliance which has the quality, reliability and power to support monitoring, security and a wide range of Networking applications”, said Ben Askarinam, Senior VP at Interface Masters Technologies. “With the complement of Interface Masters Networking product, the appliance can be connected to different network topologies and provide wide range of networking services, including bypass and high speed encryption required in security appliances.”

The NCS Portable has evolved from a mere concept to design, prototype, and now a shipping product, available for anyone requiring a portable appliance solution. The Portable is ideally suited for network forensics, network security assessments conducted for end-customers, product demonstrations, or professional services providers.
